Stephanie Houten is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily with time-based media. Her works are usually in the form of video installation and short videos. Utilizing rhythm and audiovisual synchronicity and the translation of these devices across mediums, Stephanie incorporates interactivity and improvisation in many of her installation works. Stephanie draws conceptually from socio-political issues and experiences within her communities, bridging connection between the forms she works with and the political conditions she explores through activism. Her projects require her to draw from a variety of mediums, including video projection and mapping, sculpture, sound, light design, and programming.
Stephanie lives in Boston, Massachusetts. She holds an associate’s degree in the arts from Bunker Hill Community College, and is graduating from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in May 2018 with a BFA from the Studio for Interrelated Media, where she focused on event production and video installation. She has professional experience in the Boston media industry as a videographer, video editor, and event producer. Her favorite hobbies are playing music and exploring nature, often together.
